How Computers Affect My Life

Computers and technology in general has greatly impacted my life. The first thing that come to mind is how computers have made information so easily accessible. We can put a query into a search engine and in a matter of seconds we have a laundry list of suggested websites that can answer our questions!

The next manner in which computers have affected my life is in my level of learning. We have all learned about different topics in class, but we have the ability to then uncover additional information on our own. Last semester there were many different types of language disorders  we grazed over in one of my classes. Thanks to computers I was able to gain more knowledge on the disorder that piqued my interest.

The third manner that computers have affected my life, but not the last one, is in making connections. Recently, I have been working on a research project and thanks to computers have started relationships with researchers around the world. In the past we would have to search for a phone number and pray that they talk to us. Now, people can see where we are sending our emails from and see that we have legitimate questions and concerns. This connection through computers has affected me most of all.

TV or Technology; which is better for kids?

So often we hear that too much television watching is harmful to children. Our society has attributed childhood obesity to watching too much television. Now the concern is shifting to technology. Ever since tablets and smartphones have gained popularity society has started to question technology's impact on our youth. Should we allow children to play with tablets and smartphones? My answer to this question is a resounding: YES!!! Computers in general are so much more intuitive to use than they were in the past. Therefore, they are much more user friendly which is why even very young children are able to use them with ease.

We all know that as soon as you buy a piece of technology like a computer, digital camera, smartphone, or even a television that it is outdated. Keeping this notion in mind is why we need to keep our children up to date on learning how to use the various types of technology available. When a child plays with a computer, it is interactive. They may be learning about their favorite animals and their environment. Or, maybe your child is interested in space and they begin to discover the differences between stars and planets. But, if they were just watching television, then they are at the mercy of the programing. They are passively watching the television.

Clearly technology wins this debate hands down. Encourage your children to play and explore on different types of technology and soak up as much information as they can. In the end, it will keep them ahead of the learning curve.
